No. 282 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 11, 2001; 1-3 May 11, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Administration; May 11, 2001, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 3, Nays 0; May 11, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, Students from La Porte Independent School District 1-8 who are district winners in the National History Day competition 1-9 are visiting the State Capitol on Friday, May 11; and 1-10 WHEREAS, National History Day is a highly regarded and 1-11 academically challenging year-long program that engages students in 1-12 grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of 1-13 historical topics; and 1-14 WHEREAS, This educational competition fosters academic 1-15 achievement and intellectual growth and culminates in a national 1-16 contest every June; this year's theme is "Frontiers in History: 1-17 People, Places, and Ideas"; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The La Porte High School district winners are Vic 1-19 Jackson, Frank Permenter, Charity Kester, and Kristen Young, who 1-20 won for senior group documentary; Jeremy Dozier, Ashley Walker, 1-21 and Courtney Cassidy for senior group performance; and Katie Elliot 1-22 for individual performance; from Lomax Junior High, Niki Major won 1-23 for individual documentary; and 1-24 WHEREAS, These exceptional young people will go on to compete 1-25 at the 21st Annual Texas History Day statewide contest, where they 1-26 will undoubtedly make their parents and teachers very proud of all 1-27 their hard work and accomplishments; now, therefore, be it 1-28 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-29 hereby recognize the National History Day district winners from La 1-30 Porte Independent School District and extend to them best wishes 1-31 for success in their upcoming contest. 1-32 * * * * *
