                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, Fred G. Wilkerson is retiring as superintendent of
 1-2     the Cooper Independent School District (ISD), concluding an
 1-3     outstanding 35-year career dedicated to educational excellence; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A graduate of Killeen High School, Mr. Wilkerson
 1-5     holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and a master's
 1-6     degree in education from East Texas State University; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, This highly respected educator embarked on his
 1-8     teaching career in 1966 as a math instructor and coach with the
 1-9     Littlefield ISD and held the same posts with the Mount Pleasant
1-10     ISD; in 1968, he joined the Cooper ISD as a history teacher and
1-11     director of the athletic program and since 1974, he has offered his
1-12     support and guidance in the role of superintendent; and
1-13           WHEREAS, He has also served as director of the Equity Center,
1-14     the Texas Association of Community Schools, and the Texas
1-15     Association of Rural Schools; further, he chaired the Texas
1-16     Association of School Administrators Regional Committee and served
1-17     as a member of Commissioner Lionel Meno's Cabinet of
1-18     Superintendents from 1992 to 1994; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In addition to his professional endeavors,
1-20     Mr. Wilkerson has given generously of his time and talents to such
1-21     community organizations as the Cooper Lions Club, the Delta County
1-22     Library Association, the Delta County Industrial Foundation, and
1-23     the Delta County Unit of the American Cancer Society, all of which
1-24     he served as president, and he has chaired the First United
 2-1     Methodist Church Administrative Board; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Wilkerson has set high
 2-3     standards to which all educators and administrators may aspire, and
 2-4     he is indeed worthy of special recognition at this time; now,
 2-5     therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
 2-7     hereby commend Fred G. Wilkerson on the occasion of his retirement
 2-8     as superintendent of Cooper ISD and extend to him sincere best
 2-9     wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for Mr. Wilkerson as an expression of high regard by the
2-12     Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
