HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Gary Terry of Tarrant County recently became the 1-2 beneficiary of his own humanitarianism after suffering a heart 1-3 attack at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport; and 1-4 WHEREAS, On the evening of March 19, 2001, Mr. Terry 1-5 collapsed after passing through a security checkpoint; emergency 1-6 medical personnel were able to revive the 53-year-old businessman 1-7 with an automated external defibrillator and he was taken to 1-8 Brackenridge Hospital, where he continued to improve; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport became the 1-10 first airport in Texas and the fourth airport nationwide to be 1-11 equipped with the automatic defibrillators when eight of the 1-12 lifesaving devices were installed in March at the Barbara Jordan 1-13 Terminal; in a remarkable coincidence, Mr. Terry played a key role 1-14 in having the medical equipment installed at the airport; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Executive director of external affairs for 1-16 Southwestern Bell Telephone, Mr. Terry served as chair of the 1-17 American Heart Association affiliate in Texas last year and shares 1-18 his time and energy with numerous worthy civic organizations in 1-19 Tarrant County; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Through his interest in securing lifesaving 1-21 defibrillators at the airport for the benefit of all Texans, Gary 1-22 Terry participated in saving his own life, providing a happy 1-23 outcome for all who are privileged to know him; now, therefore, be 1-24 it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-2 hereby congratulate Gary Terry on his recovery from a heart attack 2-3 and commend him for his many good works in behalf of others; and, 2-4 be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Mr. Terry as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives and Senate.
