No. 8 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 24, 2001; 1-3 April 25, 2001, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Intergovernmental Relations; May 4, 2001, reported favorably by the 1-5 following vote: Yeas 6, Nays 0; May 4, 2001, sent to printer.) 1-6 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1-7 proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the election and 1-8 terms of office of the judges of County Courts at Law Nos. 10, 11, 1-9 and 12 of Bexar County, Texas. 1-10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by 1-12 adding Section 65B to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 65B. Notwithstanding any other provision of this 1-14 constitution, the election and term of office of a judge of County 1-15 Court at Law No. 10 of Bexar County, Texas, County Court at Law No. 1-16 11 of Bexar County, Texas, or County Court at Law No. 12 of Bexar 1-17 County, Texas, are governed by the law relating to county 1-18 attorneys. 1-19 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to the 1-20 Texas Constitution: 1-21 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies 1-22 to the constitutional amendment proposed by the 77th Legislature, 1-23 Regular Session, 2001, requiring a judge of County Court at Law No. 1-24 10, 11, or 12 of Bexar County, Texas, to be elected and serve a 1-25 term in the manner provided by general law for county attorneys. 1-26 (b) The term of office of a judge of County Court at Law No. 1-27 10, 11, or 12 of Bexar County, Texas, elected at the general 1-28 election for state and county officers in 2000 ends January 1, 1-29 2005. 1-30 (c) This temporary provision takes effect on the adoption of 1-31 the amendment by the voters and expires January 2, 2005. 1-32 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-33 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001. 1-34 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against 1-35 the proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring a judge 1-36 of County Court at Law No. 10, 11, or 12 of Bexar County, Texas, to 1-37 be elected and serve a term in the manner provided by general law 1-38 for county attorneys." 1-39 * * * * *
