                                 A JOINT RESOLUTION
 1-1     proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the terms of
 1-2     office of certain officers of a municipality.
 1-3           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Article XI of the Texas Constitution is amended
 1-5     by adding Section 14 to read as follows:
 1-6           Sec. 14.  AUTHORITY OF MOST POPULOUS MUNICIPALITY TO EXPAND
 1-7     TERMS OF OFFICE FOR GOVERNING BODY AND MAYOR.  The legislature may
 1-8     authorize the most populous municipality in the state, with voter
 1-9     approval, to increase the terms of office of the members of the
1-10     governing body and mayor to not more than four-year terms.
1-11           SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-12     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001.
1-13     The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-14     proposition:  "The constitutional amendment permitting the
1-15     legislature to authorize the most populous municipality in the
1-16     state, with voter approval, to increase the terms of office of the
1-17     members of the governing body and mayor to not more than four-year
1-18     terms."
