No. 104 77R5235 SMH-D A JOINT RESOLUTION 1-1 proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize an exemption from 1-2 ad valorem taxation of a portion of the market value of the 1-3 residence homesteads of certain active and retired school 1-4 employees. 1-5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-6 SECTION 1. Section 1-b, Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is 1-7 amended by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: 1-8 (h) The legislature by general law may exempt from ad 1-9 valorem taxation not more than Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) of 1-10 the market value of the residence homestead of a person who is 1-11 employed as a teacher, nurse, or counselor at a public or private 1-12 elementary or secondary school in this state or is retired from 1-13 such a position. 1-14 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-15 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001. 1-16 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-17 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize the 1-18 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation a portion of the 1-19 value of the residence homesteads of certain active and retired 1-20 school employees."
