                                 A JOINT RESOLUTION
 1-1     proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize a county to grant
 1-2     volunteer firefighters and volunteer emergency medical technicians
 1-3     a  credit against county ad valorem taxes on real property of those
 1-4     persons.
 1-5           BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-6           SECTION 1. Article VII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
 1-7     adding Section 1-n to read as follows:
 1-8           Sec. 1-n. The governing body of a county may provide for  a
 1-9     volunteer firefighter or volunteer emergency medical technician, as
1-10     defined by general law, to receive a credit against ad valorem
1-11     taxes imposed by the county on real property of the firefighter or
1-12     technician. The legislature may provide for the administration of
1-13     this section and may provide additional qualifications and
1-14     limitations for an ad valorem tax credit authorized by this
1-15     section.
1-16           SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-17     submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2001.
1-18     The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-19     proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to authorize a district
1-20     to  grant a tax credit against county ad valorem taxes imposed on
1-21     the real property of volunteer firefighters and volunteer emergency
1-22     medical technicians."
