R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The city of Duncanville is the site for the 2001 1-2 National Veterans Golden Age Games on June 9-15, and this 1-3 outstanding event indeed merits special commendation; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Hosted by the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health 1-5 Care System, the games are open to all U.S. military veterans 55 or 1-6 older who are receiving inpatient or outpatient services from the 1-7 North Texas facility; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This multi-event sports and recreational competition 1-9 is expected to draw over 500 veterans from around the country, as 1-10 well as scores of volunteers, and provides a clear demonstration of 1-11 the therapeutic value of sports in the lives of older Americans; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Among the many open division events for 1-14 participating athletes are swimming, bicycling, pentathlon, table 1-15 tennis, dominoes, tennis, shuffleboard, horseshoes, eight-ball 1-16 bowling, checkers, and croquet; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The National Veterans Golden Age Games is a truly 1-18 unique combination of competition and comradery that provides not 1-19 only an opportunity for our country's older veterans to engage in 1-20 beneficial physical activities but also an occasion to renew the 1-21 bonds of friendship with fellow servicemen and servicewomen; now, 1-22 therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the organizers and participants 2-1 of the 2001 National Veterans Golden Age Games and extend to those 2-2 individuals and the city of Duncanville best wishes for an 2-3 outstanding event.
