By Jones of Dallas H.R. No. 8 77R3982 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For more than half a century, the Reverend Dr. 1-2 Caesar A. W. Clark has faithfully served as pastor of Good Street 1-3 Baptist Church, and as a tribute to this esteemed clergyman, C. A. 1-4 W. Clark Plaza, located on Bonnie View Road in Dallas, is being 1-5 dedicated in his honor on January 28, 2001; and 1-6 WHEREAS, In commemoration of this auspicious event, a bronze 1-7 plaque is being placed on the sidewalk at 3110 Bonnie View Road, 1-8 the address of Good Street Baptist Church; sponsored by the church, 1-9 the plaque will be a lasting testament to Dr. Clark's many years of 1-10 exemplary leadership in the church and in the community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Dr. Clark was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was 1-12 converted in 1928 at the age of 14; he began preaching the 1-13 following year and was ordained four years later; a graduate of 1-14 Bishop College, he preached at a number of noteworthy institutions 1-15 in Louisiana and Tennessee before joining Good Street Baptist 1-16 Church as its pastor in 1950; and 1-17 WHEREAS, His wisdom and strong faith have been invaluable 1-18 throughout his tenure at Good Street Baptist, and his guidance and 1-19 leadership have made an immeasurable difference in the lives of the 1-20 church's many devoted parishioners; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In spreading the word of God, Dr. Clark has preached 1-22 in all 50 states and several foreign countries and has shared his 1-23 dedication and expertise with the National Baptist Convention 1-24 U.S.A., Inc., the Baptist Ministers Union, the Interdenominational 2-1 Minister's Alliance, and a host of other organizations too numerous 2-2 to mention; his contributions to the community are equally 2-3 impressive, as this civic-minded gentleman played a key role in the 2-4 donation of an iron lung to Baylor Medical Center, the 2-5 establishment of a blood bank depository in conjunction with 2-6 Parkland Hospital, and the raising of funds to benefit the Moorland 2-7 Branch Y.M.C.A. and black colleges and universities; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Dr. Clark has justly received a number of 2-9 significant accolades through the years, including being named a 2-10 Legend in the Clergy by Bank of America and an Outstanding Texan by 2-11 the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; in addition, he has been 2-12 featured in such prominent publications as Ebony magazine and the 2-13 Dallas Morning News; and 2-14 WHEREAS, The commitment of Dr. Clark to his congregation and 2-15 community for so many years is truly commendable, and it is a 2-16 privilege to recognize him as he receives the well-deserved 2-17 distinction of having the C. A. W. Clark Plaza dedicated in his 2-18 honor; now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-20 Legislature hereby applaud the Reverend Dr. Caesar A. W. Clark for 2-21 his many good deeds and achievements and extend to him sincere best 2-22 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-24 prepared for the Reverend Dr. Caesar A. W. Clark as an expression 2-25 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
