R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The American Legion hall in Donna enjoys a long and
 1-2     distinguished history, and it is a privilege to join the people of
 1-3     this town in recognizing this treasured building; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Constructed in 1920, this unique edifice is the
 1-5     world's oldest American Legion hall and it was designated a
 1-6     historical landmark in the 1960s; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The building is home to the Donna Hooks Fletcher
 1-8     Museum, which contains memorabilia, photos, and artifacts from the
 1-9     town's founding, as well as numerous other articles and items of
1-10     interest; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the American Legion hall in
1-12     Donna has served various purposes that range from hosting
1-13     functions, such as barbecues and community dances, to being a
1-14     meeting place for organizations like the Texas State Guard and the
1-15     Donna chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Founded in 1906, Donna, a bustling, evolving
1-17     community 14 miles northeast of McAllen, has continued to grow and
1-18     prosper while embracing its past, and it is most appropriate that
1-19     the people of this noteworthy town receive special legislative
1-20     recognition as they celebrate an important part of their city's
1-21     heritage; now, therefore, be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-23     Legislature hereby honor the people of Donna and all those
1-24     associated with its storied American Legion hall and extend to them
 2-1     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 2-2     further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for the citizenry of Donna as an expression of high regard
 2-5     by the Texas House of Representatives.
