                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Jesus L. Fernandez of Del Rio on
 1-2     September  10, 2000, at the age of 71, brought a profound loss to
 1-3     the family and friends of this well-respected gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on October 15, 1928, Mr. Fernandez was happily
 1-5     married to Felicitas "Ollie" Carmona for many years until his
 1-6     wife's passing; together the couple opened Fernandez Food Center in
 1-7     1962, and Mr. Fernandez started another convenience store in 1979;
 1-8     and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This caring individual earned a special place in the
1-10     hearts of many; known for his amiable personality and generous
1-11     nature, which earned him affectionate monikers such as "Chuy" and
1-12     "El Jefe" from people in the community, he frequently came to the
1-13     aid of people less fortunate than himself and his family; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mr. Fernandez also displayed his humanitarian side
1-15     in other facets of his life; he was a founding and active member of
1-16     the United Civic Organization, was an erstwhile member of the
1-17     American Legion, and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church and St.
1-18     Joseph Men's Society; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Although Jesus Fernandez will be deeply missed, his
1-20     bright spirit will continue on in the hearts and minds of all those
1-21     whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-23     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Jesus L. Fernandez and
1-24     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his sons,
 2-1     Stephen Hector Fernandez, Jesse Fernandez, James Fernandez, Ralph
 2-2     Anthony Fernandez, and Donald Edward Fernandez; to his daughters,
 2-3     Norma Liza Chavira, Mary Gloria Arizpe, and Carmen Ortega; to his
 2-4     brothers, Natividad L. Fernandez and Mike L. Fernandez; to his
 2-5     sister, Juanita Fernandez de Ayala; to his beloved grandchildren
 2-6     and great-grandchildren; and to his nieces, nephews, other
 2-7     relatives, and many friends; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-11     Jesus L. Fernandez.
