                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Morris Swenson on September 12, 2000,
 1-2     at the age of 64, has left a void in the lives of the family and
 1-3     friends of this esteemed gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Swenson was born in Kimbro and remained in the
 1-5     Elgin area throughout his life; he was employed with Southern Union
 1-6     Gas for 41 years until his retirement in 1997 and was actively
 1-7     involved in numerous community activities; and
 1-8           WHEREAS,  This dedicated public servant diligently worked for
 1-9     the betterment of his community as a member of the Elgin City
1-10     Council for more than two decades; an exceptional leader, he spent
1-11     four terms as the mayor pro tem, one term as the deputy mayor pro
1-12     tem, and three years as a member of the Elgin Economic Development
1-13     Corporation; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A 29-year veteran of the Elgin Volunteer Fire
1-15     Department, Mr. Swenson also gave generously of his time and
1-16     talents to benefit such programs as the Elgin Western Days and the
1-17     Annual Hog-Eye Festival; he was among the original founders of the
1-18     annual Fireman's Extravaganza and served 12 years as the cochair of
1-19     the event; and
1-20           WHEREAS, In addition, "Swede," as he was affectionately
1-21     known, was a loving husband to Glenda, his wife of 43 years, and
1-22     the devoted father of two daughters, Charlotte and Jan; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Mr. Swenson was a man of integrity and compassion,
1-24     and although he is greatly missed, his spirit lives on in the
 2-1     hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now,
 2-2     therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Morris Swenson and
 2-5     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
 2-6     Glenda Swenson; to his daughters, Charlotte Maynard and Jan
 2-7     Swenson; to his grandson, Jacob Maynard; to his brothers and their
 2-8     wives, Gladstone and Erna Swenson and the Reverend Carroll and
 2-9     Phyllis Swenson; to his sisters and brother-in-law, Rose Gustafson,
2-10     Dorothy Ramm, and Maureen and Jack Townsend; to his sister-in-law,
2-11     Rosalie Swenson; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
2-12     be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-15     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Morris
2-16     Swenson.
