No. 35 77R3360 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Alice Pohler Tait of Columbus, Texas, 1-2 on November 3, 2000, at the age of 92, has left a void in the lives 1-3 of the family and friends of this esteemed woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Tait was born in Shiner, Texas, on March 15, 1-5 1908, and was a graduate of Shiner High School; after attending Our 1-6 Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, she earned her teaching 1-7 certificate from Southwest Texas Teachers College and was employed 1-8 as an educator in Lavaca County for several years; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The former Alice Nina Pohler married Robert Elbert 1-10 Tait in 1934, and their loving union was blessed with seven 1-11 children, Harriet Louise, Millycent, Rita, Roberta, Charla, Robert, 1-12 and Monica; over the years, her cherished family grew to include 16 1-13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A resident of Colorado County for more than 60 1-15 years, this civic-minded woman gave generously of her time and 1-16 talents to benefit a host of community organizations such as the 1-17 historic Stafford Opera House, the docent society, the Colorado 1-18 County Historical Commission, and the Magnolia Homes Tour; 1-19 Mrs. Tait also provided exemplary leadership as president of the 1-20 Garden Club, the Music Club, the Mary Queen of Snows Court of the 1-21 Catholic Daughters of America, the Archdiocese Council of Catholic 1-22 Women, and several parent-teacher clubs of Columbus Independent 1-23 School District, St. Anthony Catholic School, and Bishop Forest 1-24 High School; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Known throughout the community as an outstanding 2-2 citizen and neighbor, she earned numerous honors in recognition of 2-3 her hard work and dedication, including being named St. Anthony's 2-4 Woman of the Year in 1954, Outstanding Woman of the Year for the 2-5 Archdiocese of San Antonio, Outstanding Older Texan for Colorado 2-6 County, and Woman of the Year for the Alpha Alta Upsilon and Xi Chi 2-7 Kappa chapters of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Alice Tait was a woman of integrity and true 2-9 compassion, and although she is greatly missed by all who knew her, 2-10 her spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people 2-11 whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alice Pohler Tait and 2-14 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her son 2-15 and his wife, Bob and Ginny Tait; to her daughters and their 2-16 husbands, Millycent and Fritz Cranek, Rita Huffmeyer, Roberta Tait, 2-17 Charla and Jerry Ford, and Monica and Matthew Hagendorf; to her 2-18 brother, Herbert Pohler; to her grandchildren and 2-19 great-grandchildren; and to her many other relatives and friends; 2-20 and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of 2-23 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alice 2-24 Pohler Tait.
