R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of West Dallas civic leader Antonio
1-2 Mares Ortiz on November 27, 2000, at the age of 66, deeply saddened
1-3 the family and friends of this notable Texan; and
1-4 WHEREAS, On December 1, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
1-5 Church in Dallas, those who knew and loved him gathered to pay
1-6 tribute to the life of this esteemed man, a former Ledbetter
1-7 Neighborhood Association president, whose dedication helped so many
1-8 area residents; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Ortiz worked with his wife, the late Antonia
1-10 Armenta Ortiz, to enhance the quality of life in West Dallas;
1-11 challenging the City of Dallas and area lead smelters, Mr. Ortiz
1-12 helped to bring many positive changes to his community, including
1-13 the 14-1 Dallas City Council system and the provision of basic
1-14 services and infrastructure; and
1-15 WHEREAS, In addition to being a loving husband and father,
1-16 this distinguished individual championed numerous neighborhood
1-17 causes, and his good works and devotion to the improvement of West
1-18 Dallas have touched the lives of countless people in whom his
1-19 spirit will undoubtedly live on; now, therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Antonio Mares Ortiz and
1-22 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons,
1-23 Adolfo Ortiz and Marco Antonio Ortiz; to his daughters, Maria
1-24 Cardenas, Leticia Cardoza, and Laura Solis; to his 14 grandchildren
2-1 and one great-grandchild; and to the many other relatives and
2-2 friends of this fine man; and, be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-4 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-5 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-6 Antonio Mares Ortiz.
