                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Eula Goss Wintermann of Eagle Lake on
 1-2     November 29, 2000, at the age of 88, brought a great loss to the
 1-3     family and friends of this esteemed Texan; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born Eula Goss on June 15, 1912, in Houston, she
 1-5     attended The Kinkaid School and went on to graduate from Rice
 1-6     University; in 1935, she married David Wintermann, and the happy
 1-7     couple made their home in the community of Eagle Lake; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mrs. Wintermann was active in numerous organizations
 1-9     including the Junior League of Houston, the Houston Country Club,
1-10     and the Eagle Lake Study Club, in addition to being a lifetime
1-11     sponsor of Ducks Unlimited; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Along with her husband, this civic-minded woman
1-13     played a vital role in the construction of the Eagle Lake Community
1-14     Center as well as in acquiring land for its golf course; moreover,
1-15     they generously provided local residents with the Eula and David
1-16     Wintermann Library, and were major supporters of the Rice District
1-17     Community Hospital; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Her philanthropy to the arts led her to be a
1-19     benefactor of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Shepherd School
1-20     of Music, the Fondren Library at Rice University, and various other
1-21     educational institutions; and
1-22           WHEREAS, She and her husband were also dedicated to
1-23     environmental conservation; to that end, they created the
1-24     Wintermann Water Fowl Management Area for Conservation, for which
 2-1     they received The Perry R. Bass Award, the highest award conveyed
 2-2     by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department; Mrs. Wintermann was
 2-3     awarded numerous other accolades including the prestigious Paul
 2-4     Harris Fellows Award from Rotary International; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Mrs. Wintermann will undoubtedly be long remembered
 2-6     for her extensive work toward and numerous contributions to the
 2-7     betterment of her community, the environment, and the State of
 2-8     Texas; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the 77th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-10     hereby pay tribute to the life of Eula Goss Wintermann and extend
2-11     sincere sympathy to the members of her family:  to her sister, Mary
2-12     Louise Goss Townes; to her nephew, Goss Townes; to her niece, Mary
2-13     Louise Townes Lee; to her niece, Judi Shuart Johnson and her
2-14     husband, Jack; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be
2-15     it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-18     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-19     Eula Goss Wintermann.
