R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The  Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
 1-2     recognize the charter inductees of the Texas Science  Hall of Fame
 1-3     who were installed at a banquet in San Antonio on January 17, 2000;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Texas Science Hall of Fame was created in
 1-6     January 2000, as a means of recognizing Texans who have played a
 1-7     major part in significant scientific accomplishments in the state;
 1-8     and
 1-9           WHEREAS,  Among the members are Nobel Laureates, renowned
1-10     educators, inventors, researchers, and two famous heart surgeons,
1-11     all of whom reside in Texas; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The charter members of the hall of fame are:  Dr.
1-13     Manuel P. Berriozabal, Colonel John Blaha, Dr. William C. Davis,
1-14     Brigadier General Charles Moss Duke, Jr., Captain Eugene A. Cernan,
1-15     Dr. Jack Christie, Dr. Denton Cooley, Dr. Robert T. Curl, Dr.
1-16     Michael DeBakey, Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr., Jack St. Clair Kilby,
1-17     Dr. Richard E. Smalley, Dr. Gerald D. Skoog, Dr. Steven Weinberg,
1-18     and three organizations known for their support of science
1-19     education, the ExxonMobil Foundation, the Texas Prefreshman
1-20     Engineering Program (TEX Prep), and the Texas Regional
1-21     Collaborative for Excellence in Science Teaching; and 
1-22           WHEREAS, Celebrating the accomplishments of notable science
1-23     achievers from Texas and underscoring the importance of science
1-24     education for our future, membership in the Texas Science Hall of
 2-1     Fame tells the world about the excellence of these persons and
 2-2     groups who shape our world; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby congratulate and commend the 17 charter
 2-5     inductees of the Texas Science Hall of Fame for their service to
 2-6     the citizens of Texas and the world; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for the charter inductees as an expression of highest
 2-9     regard and esteem from the Texas House of Representatives.
