R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The West Orange-Stark High School Mustangs football 1-2 team has achieved outstanding success, finishing the 2000 season as 1-3 runner-up in UIL Class 4A Division II; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Truly one of the Lone Star State's football 1-5 powerhouses in the year 2000, West Orange-Stark completed the 1-6 regular season undefeated and began its relentless march through 1-7 the playoffs, adding five more triumphs in the post-season and 1-8 claiming a coveted place in the Class 4A championship contest; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Trailing 31-0 at the half of the state title game, 1-10 West Orange-Stark mounted a furious second half comeback before 1-11 finally falling to Ennis High School 38-24, and the Mustangs earned 1-12 the respect and admiration of all who witnessed their never-say-die 1-13 performance; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The 2000 season was truly a team effort, but several 1-15 of West Orange-Stark's gridiron heroes also attained individual 1-16 distinction; Paul Thomas and Jermaine Hope earned first team 1-17 all-state defensive honors, while two other members of the "Chain 1-18 Gang Defense," Turquoy Riggs and Michael Ledet, made second team 1-19 all-state, with fellow defensive stalwart Jeff Thibodeaux garnering 1-20 honorable mention; on the other side of the ball, Donald Paul was 1-21 tabbed honorable mention on the all-state offensive squad; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Under the expert guidance of head coach Dan Hooks, 1-23 each of the Mustang players was able to achieve his utmost, both 1-24 individually and as a member of the team; and 2-1 WHEREAS, These exceptional young athletes are a source of 2-2 tremendous pride to the students and faculty at West Orange-Stark 2-3 High School, as well as their many supporters in the community, and 2-4 it is indeed appropriate that they receive special legislative 2-5 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate the West Orange-Stark High School 2-8 Mustang football players and coaches on their impressive 2-9 achievements during the 2000 season and extend to them sincere best 2-10 wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for members of the West Orange-Stark High School football 2-13 team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-14 Representatives.
