By Marchant H.R. No. 65 77R2270 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Annette T. Griffin, superintendent of the 1-2 Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, has received 1-3 the 2000 Superintendent of the Year award, and this noteworthy 1-4 distinction truly merits special praise; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Presented by the Texas Association of School Boards, 1-6 the award recognizes exemplary superintendents who strive for 1-7 excellence and achievement in educational leadership; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Dr. Griffin earned bachelor's and master's degrees 1-9 at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and went on to earn a 1-10 doctorate at the University of North Texas in Denton; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Before taking over as superintendent of the 1-12 Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in 1997, Dr. Griffin held the same 1-13 position with the Duncanville and Carroll independent school 1-14 districts; she began her educational career working for the 1-15 Richardson ISD and then served as a teacher appraiser, elementary 1-16 principal, and assistant superintendent for the Carrollton-Farmers 1-17 Branch ISD; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Under her astute guidance, the Carrollton-Farmers 1-19 Branch ISD has flourished while continuing to meet the needs of its 1-20 students; the school district recently earned a "Recognized" rating 1-21 from the Texas Education Agency; and 1-22 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has played an integral role 1-23 in bringing the school district to new heights by establishing 1-24 partnerships with the community and by encouraging increased 2-1 communication with staff, parents, and community members; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Her commitment to the welfare of students in the 2-3 Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District is 2-4 demonstrated in many other ways, such as leading efforts to upgrade 2-5 the school district's technology so that students can have the most 2-6 up-to-date resources at their disposal and develop skills that will 2-7 undoubtedly serve them well in the future; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Dr. Griffin has drawn strength 2-9 and inspiration from her husband, Allen, and two children, Alana 2-10 and Tim; and 2-11 WHEREAS, With her immeasurable contributions to the field of 2-12 education, Dr. Griffin has proven herself most deserving of this 2-13 significant honor; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Annette T. Griffin on being named 2-16 the 2000 Superintendent of the Year and extend to her sincere best 2-17 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Dr. Griffin as an expression of high regard by the 2-20 Texas House of Representatives.
