R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Sharon B. Fitzpatrick is retiring from her position
 1-2     as director of information management for the Texas Department of
 1-3     Transportation (TxDOT), bringing to a close a  highly productive
 1-4     tenure with that agency that has spanned 18 years; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, One of her most challenging projects for TxDOT was
 1-6     as manager of the Year 2000 Conversion Project, which had the
 1-7     successful goal of ensuring that the agency's information systems,
 1-8     traffic management systems, and facility operations continued to
 1-9     provide a safe transportation environment to all the citizens of
1-10     the Lone Star State through the century rollover to the year 2000;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, To successfully meet the agency's needs,
1-13     Ms. Fitzpatrick meticulously coordinated an effort that constituted
1-14     more than 100,000 man-hours and the remarkable magnitude of which
1-15     spanned the TxDOT inventory of 131 applications, 37,768 production
1-16     and test objects, and more than 10 million lines of computer code;
1-17     and
1-18           WHEREAS, Ms. Fitzpatrick also communicated project status,
1-19     schedules, issues, and other year-2000-related concerns to the
1-20     Texas Legislature, the Department of Information Resources, and
1-21     TxDOT management and headed the development of contingency plans
1-22     for mission critical functions in the event of Y2K-related
1-23     failures; and
1-24           WHEREAS, In recognition of Ms. Fitzpatrick's outstanding
 2-1     efforts on the TxDOT Year 2000 Project, she was deservedly
 2-2     nominated for the prestigious Raymond E. Stotzer, Jr. Award; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Throughout the course of her career with TxDOT,
 2-4     Ms. Fitzpatrick has set standards of achievement to which all in
 2-5     the field of public service can aspire, and it is indeed
 2-6     appropriate that she receive special legislative recognition at
 2-7     this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-9     Legislature hereby honor Sharon B. Fitzpatrick for her outstanding
2-10     service to her fellow Texans and extend to her sincere best wishes
2-11     on her retirement from the Texas Departement of Transportation;
2-12     and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Ms. Fitzpatrick as an expression of high regard by the
2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
