R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 22, 2001, Texans everywhere will join 1-2 millions of fellow Americans in celebrating the life of one of our 1-3 most revered leaders, George Washington, and the Washington's 1-4 Birthday Celebration being held in Laredo February 3-18, 2001, is 1-5 worthy of special recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This year, the city of Laredo honors the memory of 1-7 our legendary Founding Father for the 104th time with a three-week 1-8 festival that combines elements of the Hispanic and Anglo cultures 1-9 and welcomes visitors from all over the Lone Star State and 1-10 northern Mexico; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Continuing to grow and flourish with each passing 1-12 year, this noteworthy event has become so popular that it now 1-13 annually attracts hundreds of thousands of people and features many 1-14 entertaining and informative activities, such as Washington's 1-15 Birthday Fireworks Display, Anheuser-Busch Washington's Birthday 1-16 Parade, Princess Pocahontas Pageant & Ball, the International 1-17 Bridge Ceremony, and numerous others; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Born in Virginia on February 22, 1732, President 1-19 Washington left an indelible legacy as this nation's first 1-20 commander in chief and president; admired for his courage, vision, 1-21 and integrity, he remains one of the most influential and respected 1-22 United States presidents of all time; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The citizens of Laredo can take great pride in their 1-24 city's observance of the birthday of a true American hero, and it 2-1 is appropriate to take this opportunity to recognize and commend 2-2 all who participate in the event; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby commemorate the Washington's Birthday 2-5 Celebration in Laredo and extend to its organizers and participants 2-6 sincere best wishes for another successful and memorable 2-7 observance; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of the Washington's Birthday Celebration 2-10 Association as a token of high regard by the Texas House of 2-11 Representatives.
