R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Student Government Association (SGA) of Stephen
 1-2     F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches is visiting the State
 1-3     Capitol on January 24, 2001, and this noteworthy occasion provides
 1-4     a fitting opportunity to honor this commendable organization; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Serving as the voice of the student body, the SGA is
 1-6     an effective conduit through which students express concerns and
 1-7     suggestions to faculty and staff; moreover, the organization
 1-8     sponsors campus events and regularly passes legislation to improve
 1-9     the quality of student life at the university; and
1-10           WHEREAS, This exemplary 53-member organization has executive,
1-11     judicial, and legislative branches to ensure that students' views
1-12     are reflected in policies being implemented by the university; in
1-13     addition, the SGA holds open meetings twice a month for students to
1-14     communicate their ideas and opinions; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Founded approximately 40 years ago, the SGA is
1-16     concerned about the welfare of the entire student population and is
1-17     currently striving to make the university a better place for
1-18     everyone by promoting various campus-wide safety measures; and
1-19           WHEREAS, While contributing greatly to the efficient
1-20     operation of the university, the SGA helps develop future leaders
1-21     of this state and nation and provides an important platform for
1-22     more than 11,000 students, and it is indeed most appropriate to pay
1-23     tribute to this fine organization at this time; now, therefore, be
1-24     it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby recognize January 24, 2001, as Student
 2-3     Government Association Day and extend to the association's members
 2-4     sincere best wishes for success and happiness in their future
 2-5     endeavors; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for the Student Government Association of Stephen F.
 2-8     Austin State University as an expression of high regard by the
 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
