R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Tara Watson, the reigning Miss Texas, is a worthy 1-2 role model for all young Texans, and her immeasurable contributions 1-3 in this regard make her a fitting goodwill ambassador for the Lone 1-4 Star State; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Representing Hurst-Euless-Bedford in the Miss Texas 1-6 pageant, this remarkable young woman was crowned Miss Texas on July 1-7 8, 2000, and has served with great distinction in this capacity, 1-8 finishing among the top 10 contestants in the Miss America contest 1-9 held last October; and 1-10 WHEREAS, During her tenure as Miss Texas, Ms. Watson has 1-11 worked diligently to increase the public's understanding and 1-12 knowledge of numerous important social issues; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Her many good works and deeds include promoting AIDS 1-14 awareness and implementing a successful child mentoring program, 1-15 "The Positive Connection," which is for children who are either 1-16 infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS; moreover, she began an 1-17 educational program for students called "Stayin' Alive"; and 1-18 WHEREAS, While representing our state, Ms. Watson has served 1-19 with outstanding leadership and dedication, and it is most 1-20 appropriate to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby recognize January 24, 2001, as Miss Texas Day, 1-23 and that Tara Watson be extended best wishes for continued good 1-24 fortune and happiness in her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-2 prepared for Tara Watson as an expression of high regard by the 2-3 Texas House of Representatives.
