R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in recognizing the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. (Remembering Our Own Tejano 1-3 Stars) Hall of Fame Museum in Alice as the official state Tejano 1-4 Music Hall of Fame; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Tejano R.O.O.T.S., Inc., a nonprofit organization 1-6 chartered on June 9, 1999, established the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall 1-7 of Fame Museum to pay tribute to the rich heritage of Tejano music 1-8 while promoting and honoring Tejano musicians past and present; 1-9 these talented musicians combine Mexican and Anglo American sounds 1-10 with various aspects of African American, German, Italian, Cuban, 1-11 and Czech musical traditions to create the flair and variety found 1-12 in this uniquely diverse genre of music; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Alice is an appropriate home for the museum as the 1-14 town has been widely known as "The Birthplace of Tejano Music" 1-15 since 1946, when Armando Marroquin, Sr., and Paco Bentancourt 1-16 founded the first Tejano recording company, IDEAL Records, in the 1-17 community and began to launch the careers of many Tejano stars; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Through the years, the Tejano music industry has 1-19 flourished and now nearly all major record labels promote Tejano 1-20 artists and their music; these musicians have increasingly gained 1-21 critical acclaim, earning The National Heritage Award from The 1-22 National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the endorsements of 1-23 numerous large corporations as the popularity of the music 1-24 continues to spread worldwide; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Tejano music is part of our national heritage and 2-2 the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum provides an impressive 2-3 setting in which people from throughout the state, nation, and 2-4 world can learn more about and enjoy this distinctive music; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby commend Tejano R.O.O.T.S., Inc., for 2-8 establishing the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Museum and 2-9 recognize this institution as the official state Tejano Music Hall 2-10 of Fame and the community of Alice as the official Birthplace of 2-11 Tejano Music; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for R.O.O.T.S., Inc., as an expression of high regard by 2-14 the Texas House of Representatives.
