R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Bay City High School Black Cats defeated the
1-2 Denton Ryan High School Raiders 24-2 to win the 2000 UIL Class 4A
1-3 Division I state football championship, and this outstanding team
1-4 accomplishment is worthy of special recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, First-year Bay City head coach Chad Morris
1-6 skillfully guided the Black Cats to a 14-1 overall record and had
1-7 them ably prepared for their title showdown against the resilient
1-8 Raiders; and
1-9 WHEREAS, In the championship contest, Bay City's
1-10 opportunistic defense played an integral role in helping the school
1-11 secure its first state title since 1983; the Black Cats' defensive
1-12 unit forced eight turnovers and stifled Denton Ryan's prolific
1-13 offensive attack; and
1-14 WHEREAS, After completing a stellar regular season, the Black
1-15 Cats marched to the championship in impressive fashion, outscoring
1-16 their five postseason opponents by a combined score of 121-34; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible
1-18 without the contributions of all the talented team members,
1-19 including Kevin Austin, Nick Williams, Andrew Smith, Ryan Luedecke,
1-20 Robert Lewis, John Roberson, Bryon Jones, Derek Cumbie, Scott

2-19 WHEREAS, The Bay City gridiron standouts have distinguished
2-20 themselves as formidable competitors, and as the Black Cats take
2-21 great pride and satisfaction in their state championship, it is
2-22 indeed fitting to pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore,
2-23 be it
2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-25 Legislature hereby congratulate the 2000 Bay City High School
2-26 football team on winning the UIL Class 4A Division I state title
2-27 and extend to its team members, coaches, and supporters sincere
3-1 best wishes for continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it
3-2 further
3-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-4 prepared for the Bay City High School football team as a token of
3-5 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
