                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Bob Garza of Dallas is most deserving of special
 1-2     praise for his notable service as chairman of the Oak Cliff Chamber
 1-3     of Commerce; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, During his 18-month tenure as chairman, Mr. Garza
 1-5     has led the Oak Cliff chamber to a 25 percent increase in
 1-6     membership, the hiring of a new president, the streamlining of
 1-7     chamber operations, and the completion of its building improvement
 1-8     project; and through his outstanding fiscal management, the chamber
 1-9     has exceeded its financial goals; and
1-10           WHEREAS,  Acting on his recognition of the importance of
1-11     education in the lives of individuals and to the community, this
1-12     farsighted leader personally interviewed scholarship candidates and
1-13     accomplished an aggressive goal of doubling the scholarships given
1-14     to graduating southern Dallas seniors; additionally, he visited
1-15     more than half of the schools in southern Dallas, encouraging and
1-16     mentoring both students and educators; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Garza is an untiring advocate for the southern
1-18     sector of Dallas, and his employer, Southwestern Bell, has had a
1-19     profound impact on the economic development in the area by locating
1-20     SBC Communications headquarters in Pinnacle Park in Oak Cliff; and
1-21           WHEREAS, The initiative and dedication exhibited by Mr. Garza
1-22     in behalf of his fellow Texans is truly commendable, and it is
1-23     indeed a privilege to pay tribute to him at this time; now,
1-24     therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby recognize Bob Garza as a Texas Star and commend
 2-3     him for his accomplishments as chairman of the Oak Cliff Chamber of
 2-4     Commerce; and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-7     House of Representatives.
