                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, December 23, 2000, was a memorable day in the life
 1-2     of Vivian Leora Jones of Mart, for on that day she celebrated her
 1-3     100th birthday; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Travis County, Mrs. Jones was born in
 1-5     1900 and was educated in a one-room schoolhouse until moving to
 1-6     Thornton, where she attended school at  Pleasant Grove and
 1-7     Groesbeck; a dedicated scholar, she earned her teacher's
 1-8     certificate from Westminster Junior College and taught school at
 1-9     Prairie View, Macedonia, and Pleasant Grove; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Married in 1921 to Calvin Jones, this beloved lady
1-11     was blessed with a close-knit family that grew to include two
1-12     children, C. C. and Thelma Jo, five grandchildren, and four
1-13     great-grandchildren; the loving couple and their family lived and
1-14     worked on a farm in Thornton until the 1940s, when they moved to
1-15     Huntsville for a short time; eventually settling in Waco, the
1-16     Joneses were longtime congregants of North Waco Baptist Church and
1-17     active and valued members of their community; and
1-18           WHEREAS, After nearly five decades of residing in Waco,
1-19     Mrs. Jones moved to Mart in 1996, where she was joined on Christmas
1-20     Eve by her family and many friends in celebration of her milestone
1-21     birthday, an auspicious occasion that most certainly merits
1-22     recognition; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate Vivian Leora Jones on the occasion
 2-1     of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 2-2     continued happiness; and, be it further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for Mrs. Jones as an expression of high regard by the
 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
