No. 126 77R3803 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Andrew Ramirez Robertson of McAllen received a 1-2 prestigious BRICK Award for the year 2000 from the nonprofit 1-3 organization Do Something and Rolling Stone magazine for his 1-4 significant efforts to improve the welfare of colonia residents in 1-5 Texas and New Mexico; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Do Something, a nationwide network of approximately 1-7 three million civic-minded young people, began awarding this honor 1-8 in 1996 in an effort to recognize the nation's most outstanding 1-9 leaders under the age of 30 who are measurably strengthening their 1-10 communities; the BRICK Award comes with a $10,000 grant to aid the 1-11 recipients in their community work; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The deputy director of Border WaterWorks, 1-13 Mr. Robertson has clearly demonstrated that he is a fitting 1-14 recipient of this award through his humanitarian efforts to improve 1-15 the conditions of colonia communities; with the development of 1-16 Border WaterWorks, this admirable gentleman has empowered countless 1-17 colonia residents to take part in the creation of sewer and water 1-18 systems for their neighborhoods, and these self-help projects have 1-19 in turn helped foster community pride while saving 40 to 50 percent 1-20 on standard construction costs; and 1-21 WHEREAS, At this time it is a privilege to commend this 1-22 remarkable and dynamic young Texan for his myriad altruistic deeds; 1-23 now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Andrew Ramirez Robertson on his 2-2 receipt of a BRICK Award for the year 2000 and applaud him for his 2-3 philanthropic endeavors with Border WaterWorks; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Mr. Robertson as an expression of high regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
