No. 138 77R1404 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In October 2000 The Port Lavaca Wave celebrated 110 1-2 years of service to the citizens of Calhoun County; and 1-3 WHEREAS, Founded by L. Seabrook in 1890, The Wave has 1-4 consistently provided accurate and timely information to its 1-5 readers during more than a century of change throughout Texas and 1-6 the world; from a weekly publication that was individually printed, 1-7 The Wave has grown to encompass an entire city block, employ more 1-8 than 40 people, and house a state-of-the-art production and 1-9 printing facility; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Port Lavaca Wave has witnessed the passage of 1-11 time and history; over the past 11 decades this enduring 1-12 institution has demonstrated its strength and resilience as it has 1-13 overcome challenges and embraced significant advances in 1-14 technology; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This invaluable news source has long been at the 1-16 forefront of new printing techniques; progressing from using the 1-17 Guttenburg-style press to the latest in computer design programs, 1-18 The Wave is well equipped to meet the needs of the 21st century 1-19 under the guidance of editor and publisher Steve Bales, as 1-20 evidenced by it being one of the first newspapers in the Golden 1-21 Crescent area to establish a presence on the World Wide Web; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Committed to the pursuit of journalistic excellence, 1-23 The Port Lavaca Wave remains responsive to the diverse interests of 1-24 its readers, and it is most fitting that this worthy periodical be 2-1 honored at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate the staff of The Port Lavaca Wave 2-4 on the occasion of the newspaper's 110th anniversary and extend to 2-5 them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the staff of The Port Lavaca Wave as an expression of 2-8 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
