                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Guadalupe Gutierrez, Sr., of Port
 1-2     Lavaca on April 4, 2000, at the age of 68, has left a void in the
 1-3     lives of the family, friends, and colleagues of this esteemed
 1-4     gentleman; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Gutierrez was born in Tivoli and served his
 1-6     country in Korea during his tenure with the United States Army; he
 1-7     was employed with Alcoa for 32 years before his retirement and was
 1-8     a member of the Alcoa 25-Year Club as well as the Our Lady of the
 1-9     Gulf Catholic Church; and
1-10           WHEREAS, A longtime member of the American G.I. Forum,
1-11     Mr. Gutierrez served the organization in several capacities,
1-12     including vice state commander, state commander, and commander of
1-13     the Local American G.I. Forum Port Lavaca #317-F; he was also
1-14     inducted into the American G.I. Forum of Texas Veterans Hall of
1-15     Fame and founded the American G.I. Forum Scholarship Foundation of
1-16     Port Lavaca; and
1-17           WHEREAS, The former director of the Veterans Outreach
1-18     Program, this dedicated individual was named one of the 25 most
1-19     influential people of Calhoun County in the 20th century and was
1-20     awarded the 1999 Cinco de Mayo Hero Award; in addition to being a
1-21     community leader, Mr. Gutierrez was a devoted husband to his wife,
1-22     Angelita, and a loving father to their five children; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Lupe," Mr. Gutierrez was a
1-24     man of integrity and compassion, and although he will be greatly
 2-1     missed by all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the
 2-2     hearts  and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Guadalupe Gutierrez,
 2-6     Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
 2-7     his wife, Angelita; to his children, Barbara Jean Sauceda, Mary
 2-8     Ellen Gutierrez, Irene Gutierrez, Danny Wayne Gutierrez, and
 2-9     Guadalupe Gutierrez, Jr.; to his sister, Alicia "Alice" Rodriguez;
2-10     to his brother, Joe M. Gutierrez; to his 10 grandchildren; and to
2-11     his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-14     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Guadalupe
2-15     Gutierrez, Sr.
