                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Lanette Nolte of Port Aransas on
 1-2     December 19, 2000, at the age of 67, brought a profound sense of
 1-3     loss to the family and friends of this treasured woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Nolte was associated with the Port Aransas
 1-5     Chamber of Commerce for more than 21 years and indeed was
 1-6     synonymous with the chamber, not only at home but throughout the
 1-7     state; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A native of South Texas, Mrs. Nolte took enormous
 1-9     pride in being a lifelong resident of the Port Aransas area; she
1-10     was born January 17, 1933, in Willis and grew up in Ingleside;
1-11     except for the one year she and her husband lived in Kingsville
1-12     while he pursued a master's degree, she lived her entire life in
1-13     Nueces and San Patricio counties; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mrs. Nolte and her husband moved to Port Aransas
1-15     following his retirement from the Gregory-Portland Independent
1-16     School District; hired initially as a part-time clerk for the
1-17     chamber of commerce, Mrs. Nolte soon found herself managing the
1-18     operation, and her energy, dedication, and ingenuity were priceless
1-19     assets to the community; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Long before websites, even before there was a budget
1-21     to produce brochures, Mrs. Nolte enlisted the help of friends and
1-22     volunteers in getting the word out about Port Aransas and Mustang
1-23     Island; with the aid of these fellow citizens, she represented Port
1-24     Aransas at numerous travel shows and organized huge mailouts of
 2-1     accommodations lists, gathering together large groups of women to
 2-2     prepare the material for the post office; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, She also called on her friends to help entertain the
 2-4     travel and sports writers she lured to Port Aransas, understanding
 2-5     that the stories they would publish about this delightful corner of
 2-6     the state would be far more influential than mere advertisements;
 2-7     and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Mrs. Nolte was one of those people who seemed to
 2-9     know everyone, whose networks transcend occupational and geographic
2-10     boundaries; if Port Aransas now enjoys the affection of countless
2-11     Winter Texans, not to mention the appreciation of innumerable other
2-12     tourists and the loyalty of many new residents, it is due in no
2-13     small measure to the far-ranging contacts and unflagging efforts of
2-14     this remarkable woman; and
2-15           WHEREAS, Mrs. Nolte bequeathed a further legacy to Port
2-16     Aransas through her mentoring of younger residents; the vast
2-17     knowledge and skills she acquired over the years were shared with
2-18     members of the next generation as she taught them the ins and outs
2-19     of staging community events and lent a hand to ensure the success
2-20     of their efforts; and
2-21           WHEREAS, In 1983, in recognition of her outstanding work in
2-22     behalf of Port Aransas and Mustang Island, Mrs. Nolte received the
2-23     Governor's Hospitality Award, an honor that pleased her
2-24     tremendously; and
2-25           WHEREAS, Following her retirement from the Port Aransas
2-26     Chamber of Commerce in 1995, Lanette Nolte continued to be active
2-27     in the real estate and retail business; she was a valued member of
 3-1     St. Joseph Catholic Church and was also involved in the Port
 3-2     Aransas Garden Club and in Keep Port Aransas Beautiful, Inc.; and
 3-3           WHEREAS, The enthusiasm, graciousness, and commitment that
 3-4     Mrs. Nolte displayed as an emissary of Port Aransas won her the
 3-5     affection and esteem of all who knew her, and her spirit will
 3-6     surely live on in the hearts of those whose lives she so deeply
 3-7     touched; now, therefore, be it
 3-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 3-9     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lanette Nolte and
3-10     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:  to her
3-11     husband, R. C. Nolte; to her daughter and son-in-law, Charlette and
3-12     Peter Hagedorn; to her brother, L. M. Matthews; to her sisters, Ida
3-13     Lea Reynolds and Alli B. Humphrey; to her grandchildren, Clay and
3-14     Chase Lanette Hagedorn; and to the other relatives and friends of
3-15     this beloved woman; and, be it further
3-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-17     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
3-18     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-19     Lanette Nolte.
