                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The celebration of African American Heritage Month
 1-2     in February is a most auspicious occasion, and it provides a
 1-3     perfect opportunity to recognize the admirable efforts of the
 1-4     Austin Independent School District (ISD) African American Heritage
 1-5     Committee; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Begun in 1926, African American Heritage Month is a
 1-7     significant observance that serves to celebrate the many important
 1-8     contributions African Americans have made and continue to make to
 1-9     our state and nation; the Austin ISD African American Heritage
1-10     Committee is once again proudly commemorating this noteworthy
1-11     occasion, which has as its theme, "Creating and Defining the
1-12     African American Community: Family, Church, Politics, and Culture";
1-13     and
1-14           WHEREAS, This important month-long event is truly an ideal
1-15     way to increase public awareness of the myriad achievements and
1-16     rich legacy of influential and innovative African Americans; and
1-17           WHEREAS, African Americans across the nation continue to take
1-18     justifiable pride in a remarkable heritage while always striving to
1-19     embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future, and it is a
1-20     privilege to pay tribute to the Austin ISD African American
1-21     Heritage Committee for marking this momentous month; now,
1-22     therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby commend all those involved with the Austin
 2-1     Independent School District African American Heritage Committee for
 2-2     commemorating African American Heritage Month and extend to them
 2-3     sincere best wishes for a memorable observance.
