R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Peggy Maddox of Sweetwater has been named Teacher of
 1-2     the Year for Region 14 by the Texas Association for the Gifted and
 1-3     Talented, and this noteworthy educator is indeed deserving of
 1-4     special recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Ms. Maddox is a truly inspirational leader, and her
 1-6     students have achieved numerous grants and special recognitions for
 1-7     their projects, and an original play about the Women Air Force
 1-8     Service Pilots researched and written by students has been
 1-9     performed before more than 1,000 people, is on video, and is
1-10     included at the Texas Woman's University archives; and
1-11           WHEREAS, A teacher at Sweetwater Middle School, Ms. Maddox
1-12     has taught in the Sweetwater Independent School District for the
1-13     past 15 years and has implemented many innovative programs and a
1-14     unique curriculum for her gifted and talented students; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Under her encouragement and guidance, students have
1-16     initiated a letter-writing campaign to increase environmental
1-17     awareness, studied the problem of air pollution in Big Bend
1-18     National Park, and transformed an old schoolyard into an outdoor
1-19     learning center; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by her colleagues in the teaching
1-21     community, this exceptional instructor has been involved in a host
1-22     of educational initiatives, including by serving on the
1-23     Gifted/Talented Task Force and on the executive board for the
1-24     Environmental Education 2000 Project; she has been nominated for
 2-1     Who's Who Among America's Teachers, was named the
 2-2     Glencoe/McGraw-Hill Instructional Mentor Teacher for Middle School,
 2-3     and earned the title Teacher of the Year from both the Invent
 2-4     America Competition and the Texas Association for the Gifted and
 2-5     Talented; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, It is most appropriate to take the opportunity
 2-7     presented by her receipt of this recent accolade to commend
 2-8     Ms. Maddox for her many contributions to the field of education;
 2-9     now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-11     Legislature hereby congratulate Peggy Maddox on being named Teacher
2-12     of the Year for Region 14 by the Texas Association for the Gifted
2-13     and Talented and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
2-14     success and happiness; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for Ms. Maddox as an expression of high regard by the
2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
