                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Chief Charles P. Bruce
 1-2     was a valued member of the Del Rio Police Department, and his
 1-3     retirement provides a fitting opportunity to honor him for his
 1-4     outstanding contributions to the field of law enforcement in Texas;
 1-5     and
 1-6           WHEREAS, This distinguished public servant began his career
 1-7     as a dispatcher with the Del Rio Police Department on March 8,
 1-8     1958, and attained the position of sergeant in 1969, lieutenant in
 1-9     1972, and captain in 1981; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Recognized for his exceptional leadership abilities,
1-11     this noteworthy Texan was made chief of police on October 1, 1984,
1-12     and he has demonstrated the integrity, commitment, and fairness
1-13     essential for this esteemed position; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Endeavoring to uphold and enforce the laws of this
1-15     state is indeed a tremendous undertaking, and one that is truly
1-16     deserving of respect and praise; this estimable gentleman gave
1-17     generously of his time and experience to the city of Del Rio and
1-18     has been a tremendous asset to the citizens of this close-knit
1-19     community and the Lone Star State; and
1-20           WHEREAS, On August 1, 2000, Chief Bruce stepped down from his
1-21     position, leaving a legacy that will not soon be forgotten, and it
1-22     is a privilege to pay tribute to him at this time; now, therefore,
1-23     be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th
 2-1     Texas Legislature hereby commend Charles P. Bruce for his many
 2-2     years of  service to the Del Rio Police Department and extend
 2-3     sincere best wishes for his continued success and happiness; and,
 2-4     be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for Mr. Bruce as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-7     House of Representatives.
