R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brunson of Marfa rendered 1-2 outstanding service to the people of Presidio County during his 1-3 tenure as county judge, and his work in this office is indeed 1-4 worthy of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Judge Brunson received appointment to the post of 1-6 county judge following the resignation of his predecessor and took 1-7 the oath of office on July 1, 1999; and 1-8 WHEREAS, While administering the county government, Judge 1-9 Brunson was actively involved with the Area Council on Aging, the 1-10 Big Bend Community Action Council, and the appraisal district; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Along with the many responsibilities routinely 1-12 assumed by county judges, Mr. Brunson devoted his time to a major 1-13 program of restoration work on the county's courthouse in Marfa; 1-14 this notable structure was completed in 1887 and is a part of the 1-15 Texas Courthouse Alliance, a project to document 55 of the state's 1-16 oldest courthouses; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In 2000, the Presidio County Courthouse became one 1-18 of 19 Texas courthouses chosen to receive matching funds through 1-19 the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program; the grant of 1-20 more than $2 million has enabled Presidio County to undertake 1-21 extensive work to strengthen the integrity and restore the lustre 1-22 of this splendid building, and Judge Brunson's enthusiastic support 1-23 of this project and his critical role in its successful 1-24 implementation have benefited not only the citizens of Presidio 2-1 County but all who value the heritage of the Lone Star State; and 2-2 WHEREAS, When he became county judge, Mr. Brunson brought to 2-3 the office a wealth of knowledge and experience, having served 2-4 eight years as a Presidio County commissioner; in the latter 2-5 capacity he worked assiduously to ensure that the Marfa Municipal 2-6 Airport maintained its compliance with federal regulations; and 2-7 WHEREAS, A native of Runnels County, this distinguished Texan 2-8 has spent many years in the Trans-Pecos; he made his career as a 2-9 Border Patrol officer and was stationed at Sanderson, Presidio, 2-10 Fort Stockton, and Marfa, in addition to Stockton and Chula Vista, 2-11 California; before his appointment as county judge, he managed the 2-12 Marfa Municipal Golf Course; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Judge Brunson has maintained his ties with former 2-14 colleagues through his work with the association of retired Border 2-15 Patrol officers, serving as president of the national organization; 2-16 he has also given generously of his time to the local food bank; 2-17 and 2-18 WHEREAS, A valued community leader, Mr. Brunson discharged 2-19 the office of county judge with great skill and dedication, and it 2-20 is truly a pleasure to join his many friends and fellow citizens in 2-21 honoring his exemplary contributions; now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-23 Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Jack Brunson for his 2-24 tenure as Presidio County Judge and extend to him sincere 2-25 appreciation for his fine public service; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Judge Brunson as an expression of high regard by the 3-3 Texas House of Representatives.
