No. 212 77R5378 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 28, 2001, proud citizens from Vernon, 1-2 Crowell, and Quanah are gathering in Austin to celebrate Western 1-3 Heritage Group Day at the State Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The Western Heritage Group strives to ensure that 1-5 industries in these fine towns continue to thrive; its members 1-6 support further growth in the business community and promote a 1-7 positive vision of the future; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Western Heritage Group is made up of community 1-9 leaders, including mayors, bankers, store owners, chamber of 1-10 commerce members, and other economic development personnel; by 1-11 uniting and addressing the challenging issues that face their 1-12 communities, these admirable Texans are laying the foundation for 1-13 prosperity in the years ahead; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Vernon, Crowell, and Quanah share many 1-15 characteristics; they are rural communities with economies that are 1-16 based on farming, ranching, and oil production, and they serve as 1-17 the county seats of their respective counties; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Located in Hardeman County, Quanah has been 1-19 designated a Texas Main Street city and features the historic 1-20 Medicine Mounds; moreover, the 1,933-acre Copper Breaks State Park 1-21 is a popular destination for outdoor and water enthusiasts; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Established in 1891, Crowell is part of Foard 1-23 County, and its Depot Library/Museum and Firehall Museum reflect 1-24 the town's rich history and heritage and attract visitors from 2-1 across the Lone Star State; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Originally to be named Eagle Flat, Vernon is in 2-3 Wilbarger County and is home of the Santa Rosa Palomino Club; this 2-4 unique precision equestrian riding club earned the distinction of 2-5 being selected as Texas' Ambassadors on Horseback by the Texas 2-6 Legislature; and 2-7 WHEREAS, With their proactive approach and creative vision, 2-8 the members of the Western Heritage Group are making immeasurable 2-9 contributions to their communities and a positive impact on the 2-10 State of Texas, and it is indeed most appropriate to pay tribute to 2-11 them at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby recognize February 28, 2001, as Western Heritage 2-14 Group Day at the State Capitol and extend to the Western Heritage 2-15 Group sincere best wishes for success in their ongoing endeavors.
