No. 214 77R5765 GMW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride 1-2 in recognizing February 7, 2001, as YMCA Day at the State Capitol 1-3 and in congratulating this noteworthy organization on its 150 years 1-4 of outstanding service in the United States; and 1-5 WHEREAS, With more than 2,400 facilities, the YMCA is the 1-6 largest nonprofit community service organization in the nation, and 1-7 its dedicated staff and volunteers work hard to meet the health and 1-8 social service needs of 17.5 million men, women, and children in 1-9 10,000 communities, including 4 million people in the Lone Star 1-10 State alone; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Each YMCA location is specifically designed to 1-12 address the needs of the community it serves; all of the YMCA 1-13 branches in Texas offer invaluable services that nurture children, 1-14 support families, and strengthen communities; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The chief volunteer officers and chief executive 1-16 officers of Texas' YMCAs have devoted countless hours to their 1-17 work, and they have chosen to visit the State Capitol on this day 1-18 to share their stories and concerns with members of the Texas 1-19 Legislature; and 1-20 WHEREAS, For many years, Texans have reaped the benefits of 1-21 the myriad services and programs offered by the many branches of 1-22 the YMCA, and it is indeed appropriate to pay tribute to this 1-23 remarkable organization at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby recognize February 7, 2001, as YMCA Day at the 2-2 State Capitol and extend to all those associated with the YMCA 2-3 heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of its 150th anniversary 2-4 in the United States.
