R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The City of Weslaco has designated February 20,
 1-2     2001, as Maria V. Sanchez Day, in honor of her many contributions
 1-3     to the community, and this occasion is truly worthy of special
 1-4     legislative recognition; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, the former Maria Vallejo was born on
 1-6     February 20, 1911, in McAllen; in 1926 she married Jose Carmona
 1-7     Sanchez, with whom she shared more than six decades of wonderful
 1-8     memories; the mother of 10 cherished children, Mrs. Sanchez devoted
 1-9     her life to empowering her sons and daughters, instilling in them
1-10     both civic-mindedness and community pride; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Jose V. Sanchez has earned three terms as mayor of
1-12     Weslaco, due in part to the perseverance and hard work of his
1-13     dedicated mother; her daughter Graciela V. Sanchez has served as a
1-14     delegate to both the state and the national democratic party
1-15     conventions, and her son Samuel V. Sanchez has twice earned the
1-16     prestigious position of county commissioner for Precinct One;
1-17     following their mother's teachings, Esperanza, Inocencia, Anita,
1-18     Robert Enrique, and Maria Belinda have also displayed an admirable
1-19     commitment to public service and have been active in numerous
1-20     noteworthy endeavors; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her own efforts throughout the
1-22     city, Mrs. Sanchez has committed herself to working toward the
1-23     betterment of the Weslaco area, and she is most deserving of praise
1-24     for her significant contributions to that exceptional town; now,
 2-1     therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby commend Maria V. Sanchez on her noteworthy civic
 2-4     achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 2-5     success and happiness; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Mrs. Sanchez as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
