R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Albert G. Valadez of Fort Stockton made significant
1-2 contributions to the Lone Star State during his productive tenure
1-3 as district attorney for the 83rd Judicial District; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Formerly an assistant district attorney, this
1-5 notable Texan became district attorney on April 1, 1992, and during
1-6 his first term, Mr. Valadez ably represented the state in more than
1-7 three dozen jury trials, as well as making numerous appearances at
1-8 the 8th Court of Appeals; and
1-9 WHEREAS, After receiving a report of an escape from the
1-10 Brewster County Jail, Mr. Valadez found evidence of other problems
1-11 at the jail and coordinated a raid on the facility that ultimately
1-12 caused it to be shut down and replaced by a more secure jail, an
1-13 action strongly supported by Brewster County citizens; and
1-14 WHEREAS, In his capacity as district attorney, he played a
1-15 significant role in other high-profile cases, including the
1-16 standoff with members of the Republic of Texas and the trial and
1-17 conviction of the Fort Stockton chief of police; and
1-18 WHEREAS, A native of San Angelo, he earned his bachelor's
1-19 degree from the University of Houston and continued his higher
1-20 education at Texas Southern University, where he attained his law
1-21 degree; and
1-22 WHEREAS, The dedicated individuals who devote their time and
1-23 talents to the impartial application of the law perform a vital
1-24 service, and Albert G. Valadez's many achievements in this regard
2-1 are truly worthy of special legislative recognition; now,
2-2 therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby commend Albert G. Valadez for his notable public
2-5 service as district attorney for the 83rd Judicial District and
2-6 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
2-7 further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for Mr. Valadez as an expression of high regard by the
2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
