R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The February 1, 2001, retirement of Nyla C. Alford
 1-2     of Waco concludes a dynamic association with the Heart of Texas
 1-3     Chapter of the American Red Cross that has spanned three decades;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Ms. Alford served the Central Texas chapter with
 1-6     great distinction as a member of its board of directors from 1971
 1-7     to 1981 and also chaired the panel; in March 1981, she took on the
 1-8     myriad responsibilities of chapter manager and successfully guided
 1-9     the organization throughout the ensuing years; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Under her astute management of the Waco-based
1-11     chapter, countless Texans have benefited from much-needed
1-12     assistance during times of disaster; she has been a tireless
1-13     advocate for the organization, whether speaking to groups about
1-14     services or appealing to donors for the funding of those services,
1-15     as well as a good steward of chapter funds by making every penny
1-16     count; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Her determination and enthusiasm helped ensure the
1-18     success of the direct mail program and the HOOP IT UP fund-raising
1-19     event, and the personal touch she has added to her work through
1-20     such activities as preparing her famous home-cooked meals for board
1-21     meetings is indicative of the level of dedication and selflessness
1-22     she has maintained in behalf of the Red Cross over the course of
1-23     her remarkable tenure; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Nyla C. Alford has set high
 2-1     standards to which all may aspire, and she has brought honor to the
 2-2     chapter through her work locally and through her leadership on the
 2-3     Texas State Service Council and as president of the Texas Chapter
 2-4     Managers Association; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby congratulate Nyla C. Alford on her retirement
 2-7     from the Heart of Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross and
 2-8     commend her for her steadfast dedication to the citizens of the
 2-9     Lone Star State; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for Ms. Alford as an expression of high regard by the
2-12     Texas House of Representatives.
