R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many fans of Eddy Shaver of Waco were 1-2 deeply saddened by the untimely passing of this talented and 1-3 beloved musician on December 31, 2000, at the age of 38; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born John Edwin Shaver on June 20, 1962, he learned 1-5 to play the guitar at a very young age, learning much of his 1-6 technique from family friend and Allman Brothers Band member Dickey 1-7 Betts; son of Brenda Joyce Shaver and famed musician and songwriter 1-8 Billy Joe Shaver, he accompanied his father on tours as a teenager 1-9 and later collaborated with him on several acclaimed albums; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Performing in his signature black trenchcoat and 1-11 adopting a rough-hewn persona reminiscent of his father, Mr. Shaver 1-12 entertained audiences with his gritty yet supportive guitar style; 1-13 he accompanied numerous singing greats, including Willie Nelson, 1-14 Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and Dwight Yoakam, 1-15 and during the 1980s he played and toured as a member of Dwight 1-16 Yoakam's band; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This talented Texan also performed with his father 1-18 in the duo Shaver, and together they produced and wrote such 1-19 outstanding albums as Salt of the Earth, Tramp on Your Street, and 1-20 Victory; their most recent album, The Earth Rolls On, will come out 1-21 in March; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Though Eddy Shaver's life has been cut tragically 1-23 short, his memory will undoubtedly live on, not only in the music 1-24 he left us, but in the hearts of all the people he so deeply 2-1 touched; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Eddy Shaver and 2-4 extend sincere sympathy to his father, Billy Joe Shaver, and to his 2-5 other friends and family; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-8 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-9 Eddy Shaver.
