R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Yon E. Choi of Houston in recognition of her 80th birthday; and
1-3 WHEREAS, Born on January 20, 1921, in Korea, she married
1-4 Myung A. Choi in 1938, and the couple was blessed with two sons,
1-5 Sam and Joe, who were raised by their mother after their father was
1-6 declared missing in action during the Korean War; through the
1-7 years, Mrs. Choi has joyfully welcomed into her close-knit family
1-8 four beloved grandchildren, Michael, Eddie, Maurice, and Esther
1-9 Choi; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Choi graduated from a Bible school in Kyung Joo
1-11 City, Korea, and from a theological seminary in Seoul, Korea; for
1-12 30 years she served myriad churches as a Bible/visitation minister,
1-13 and in 1978 she retired from Dong Shin Church in Seoul, one of the
1-14 largest Presbyterian churches in Korea; and
1-15 WHEREAS, In 1978, she immigrated to Houston to be near her
1-16 family and began a 17-year career with the Korean Christian Church
1-17 as an honorary Bible minister and teacher of theology; since 1981,
1-18 Mrs. Choi has been a loyal Thursday morning volunteer at Northwest
1-19 Memorial Hospital, and thus far she has donated more than 4,100
1-20 hours of service; and
1-21 WHEREAS, For 80 years, Yon E. Choi has lived a full life
1-22 devoted to her family, church, and community, and it is most
1-23 appropriate that she be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Yon E. Choi on the joyous occasion
2-2 of her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-3 continued happiness; and, be it further
2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-5 prepared for Mrs. Choi as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-6 House of Representatives.
