No. 242 77R5257 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The bluebonnet was officially declared the state 1-2 flower by the 27th Texas Legislature in 1901, and as we observe the 1-3 100th anniversary of this designation it is an opportune time to 1-4 honor Jo Fasnacht of Victoria for her myriad efforts to promote 1-5 pride in the bluebonnet; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Affectionately known as Victoria's "Bluebonnet 1-7 Lady," Ms. Fasnacht has had a lifelong admiration for the state 1-8 flower; as a young girl growing up in the Hebbronville area, she 1-9 composed a five-verse poem, "To a Bluebonnet," in honor of the Lone 1-10 Star State's most famous blossom; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In 1977, she published note cards from a set of 10 1-12 of her watercolors titled "Bluebonnet Children," featuring 1-13 children, birds, butterflies, and an Indian doll; the images, 1-14 inspired by the poem she had written as a teenager, were also used 1-15 on sets of children's play blocks; and 1-16 WHEREAS, In celebration of the new millennium, Ms. Fasnacht 1-17 made T-shirts that depict her 1978 painting, "Bluebonnets and 1-18 Eyes," and her latest artistic endeavor is a green, blue, and white 1-19 Texas bluebonnet flag representing the Lone Star of Texas embracing 1-20 the state flower of Texas, according to its designer; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Jo Fasnacht has aspired to 1-22 creatively demonstrate her fascination with the bluebonnet to her 1-23 fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives hereby 2-1 commend Jo Fasnacht for her exemplary efforts to promote pride in 2-2 the bluebonnet in its centennial year as the state flower; and, be 2-3 it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Ms. Fasnacht as an expression of high regard and best 2-6 wishes by the Texas House of Representatives.
