R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of The University of 1-2 Texas at Austin are joining together on February 17, 2001, for 1-3 Project 2001, a day of service to the Austin community; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Project 2001 is marshaling the efforts of more than 1-5 2,000 individuals from the Austin campus for work in behalf of an 1-6 East Austin neighborhood; volunteers will be pooling their skills 1-7 and labor as they undertake several different assignments; and 1-8 WHEREAS, One large contingent of workers will be clearing 1-9 undeveloped areas of a neighborhood park, mulching new trails, and 1-10 performing other landscaping tasks; a second group will be 1-11 cleaning, painting, and landscaping nearby Sims Elementary School, 1-12 while a third crew will be offering lawn care and minor home 1-13 repairs to neighborhood residents in need of assistance; and 1-14 WHEREAS, This laudable project is made possible by support 1-15 from Keep Austin Beautiful and from Home Depot, whose help with 1-16 this worthy endeavor is greatly appreciated; and 1-17 WHEREAS, One of the primary objectives of our universities is 1-18 to prepare students to become productive members of the community, 1-19 and it is especially appropriate that publicly supported 1-20 institutions seek ways to contribute to the common welfare; the 1-21 students, faculty, and staff participating in Project 2001 1-22 exemplify the public-spirited outlook that is so essential to a 1-23 sound society, and it is a pleasure to commend them for their 1-24 service at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby recognize The University of Texas at Austin's 2-3 Project 2001 and the admirable work of all those associated with 2-4 this fine effort.
