R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of a notable Texan is truly an
 1-2     event worthy of special recognition, and on April 10, 2001, Veva L.
 1-3     Wynn of Houston will mark this golden milestone in her life; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on April 10, 1901, in Houston, this beloved
 1-5     woman attended Douglas Elementary School and graduated from Phillis
 1-6     Wheatley High School; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Mrs. Wynn has been a devout congregant at Buck
 1-8     Street Church of God in Christ for 77 years, having served as its
 1-9     secretary, trustee, and deaconess in addition to teaching the
1-10     Sunshine Band, Purity Band, Home & Foreign Mission, and Sunday
1-11     school classes; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Through the years, this esteemed woman dedicated
1-13     much of her time to helping her fellow Texans; a notary public for
1-14     Harris City, Mrs. Wynn assisted in preparing income tax returns for
1-15     the community, volunteered for the Red Cross, and was active in the
1-16     war effort during World War II; and
1-17           WHEREAS, A member of the Roaring 20 Girls of Booker T.
1-18     Washington, Mrs. Wynn was involved in numerous civic affairs; she
1-19     donated her time to the Kashmere Multipurpose Center-5th Ward,
1-20     where she organized and spent six years teaching a Bible class that
1-21     operates to this day; she also served as a Woman in Yellow at the
1-22     J. D. Hospital, now Ben Taub Hospital, and was Houston district
1-23     editor of the Christian Crusader; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Mrs. Wynn is most deserving of recognition as she
 2-1     celebrates a century of goodness and generosity to her community,
 2-2     and it is indeed a privilege to honor her at this time; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby honor Veva L. Wynn on the joyous occasion of her
 2-6     100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
 2-7     happiness; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-9     prepared for Mrs. Wynn as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-10     House of Representatives.
