R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Dr. Anthony B. Constanzo, retiring superintendent of East Central 1-3 Independent School District (ISD) in San Antonio; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A graduate of South San Antonio High School, 1-5 Dr. Constanzo holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Lutheran 1-6 College, a master's degree from Trinity University, and a doctorate 1-7 in educational administration from Nova University; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He embarked on his oustanding career in the field of 1-9 education as a teacher, coach, and athletic director with Southside 1-10 ISD; after a two-year interlude with the United States Army, he 1-11 went to work for North East ISD, where his administrative roles 1-12 over the next 28 years included assistant principal of Douglas 1-13 MacArthur High School and Lee Junior High School, principal of 1-14 Jackson Middle School, Theodore Roosevelt High School, and Krueger 1-15 Junior High School, administrative aide to the superintendent, and 1-16 first associate superintendent; and 1-17 WHEREAS, More recently, Dr. Constanzo distinguished himself 1-18 throughout 19 years with East Central ISD, and his "ABC's of 1-19 Progress" resulted in myriad accomplishments, including state and 1-20 national recognition of student achievement, upgraded and expanded 1-21 curriculum and staff to meet Texas Education Agency and Southern 1-22 Association of Colleges and Schools standards, and solid 1-23 school/community partnerships; in addition, the district now 1-24 provides individualized programs for special-needs students, 2-1 advanced placement, dual credit, expanded course offerings, 2-2 extended day and extended year programs, and alternative school 2-3 settings; he also played a leading role in the successful passage 2-4 of three bond referendums, including a $23.2 million package for 2-5 new facilities in 1999; and 2-6 WHEREAS, This highly respected educator has devoted his 2-7 considerable leadership abilities to many worthy professional and 2-8 civic organizations, serving in such capacities as vice president 2-9 of the Challenger Learning Center, president of the Region 20 2-10 Regional Advisory Committee, and member of the Executive and 2-11 Legislative committees of the Texas Association of School 2-12 Administrators; and 2-13 WHEREAS, In recognition of his numerous achievements, he was 2-14 nominated for National Superintendent of the Year 2000; he is one 2-15 of five honorees commemorated on the Wall of Honor at Heritage 2-16 Middle School, and the Anthony B. Constanzo Math/Science Building 2-17 at East Central High School was named in his honor; many other 2-18 accolades and awards testify to the great esteem in which he is 2-19 held; and 2-20 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Constanzo has set high 2-21 standards to which all educators and administrators may aspire, and 2-22 he is indeed worthy of special recognition at this time; now, 2-23 therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Anthony B. Constanzo for his 2-26 dedication to the students of San Antonio and extend to him sincere 2-27 best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it 3-1 further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-3 prepared for Dr. Constanzo as an expression of high regard by the 3-4 Texas House of Representatives.
