R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On February 20, 2001, proud residents of the 1-2 Richardson area will gather at the State Capitol for Richardson 1-3 Telecom Corridor Legislative Day, and this noteworthy event 1-4 furnishes an ideal opportunity to extol the virtues of this vital 1-5 region of the state; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Located along the North Central Expressway and the 1-7 President George Bush Tollway, the Telecom Corridor area is home to 1-8 more than 700 high technology and telecommunications firms, and the 1-9 remarkable success of these thriving businesses offers a glimpse 1-10 into the future of the Lone Star State's economy; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The fruitful collaboration between business and 1-12 government that characterizes the region is due in large part to 1-13 the committed efforts of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and its 1-14 affiliated organization, the Telecom Corridor Technology Business 1-15 Council (TBC), a nonprofit technology organization of more than 430 1-16 technology firms across the North Texas region established in 1-17 August 1994; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Richardson's high quality of life makes it an ideal 1-19 home to modern business; in addition to some of the state's best 1-20 schools and colleges, the city also boasts more than 1,000 acres of 1-21 park space, and the nationally known Wildflower Arts and Music 1-22 Festival and Cottonwood Arts Festival are apt reflections of the 1-23 area's rich cultural heritage; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Richardson is also home to The University of Texas 2-1 at Dallas, which has more than 11,000 students and is the 2-2 fastest-growing public university in Texas, increasing in 2-3 enrollment by 28 percent between 1994 and 2000; the school also has 2-4 an outstanding school of engineering and computer science that ably 2-5 serves the technology industry in the Telecom Corridor and across 2-6 the Metroplex; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the area's 2-8 technology leadership have made Richardson's Telecom Corridor area 2-9 one of the showpieces of modern Texas, and they can take pride and 2-10 satisfaction in their many accomplishments as they look forward to 2-11 the challenges and opportunities of years to come; now, therefore, 2-12 be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby recognize February 20, 2001, as Richardson 2-15 Telecom Corridor Legislative Day and extend a warm welcome to the 2-16 area's business and civic leaders visiting the State Capitol.
