R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to 1-2 honor Catherine Davis Pinkston of Shelby County for her commitment 1-3 to the betterment of her community; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Center, Texas, Mrs. Pinkston has given 1-5 generously of her time and talents to benefit the residents of 1-6 Shelby County for more than four decades; this esteemed woman is 1-7 praised throughout the area for her enthusiasm and contributions on 1-8 behalf of the county's youth, and her hard work has earned her the 1-9 respect and admiration of her family, friends, and neighbors; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pinkston has long been dedicated to ensuring a 1-11 brighter and more promising future for the next generation of 1-12 Texans; appointed chair of a study on the needs of juveniles for 1-13 the chamber of commerce in 1955, she and an innovative group of 1-14 community leaders established a youth center; originally known as 1-15 the Rider's Roost, the center created a safe place for the city's 1-16 young people to gather and served the community's families for 1-17 decades; and 1-18 WHEREAS, After the closing of this visionary center, 1-19 Mrs. Pinkston and the board of trustees initiated the Catherine 1-20 Pinkston Roughrider Scholarship Foundation; helping nearly 400 1-21 Center High School graduates attend college, the foundation has 1-22 awarded almost $200,000 in scholarships since 1989; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pinkston has been active in numerous civic and 1-24 cultural organizations and has held a host of leadership positions 2-1 throughout the community; this remarkable woman is a tribute to the 2-2 selfless and compassionate spirit for which the Lone Star State is 2-3 renowned, and it is a privilege to pay tribute to her at this time; 2-4 now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby commend Catherine Davis Pinkston for her 2-7 significant civic contributions and extend to her sincere best 2-8 wishes for the future; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mrs. Pinkston as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
