                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, It is always a pleasure to welcome international
 1-2     visitors to the Lone Star State, and it is a particular privilege
 1-3     to recognize a special group of distinguished individuals who have
 1-4     traveled to Austin from Sendai, Japan, to participate in the
 1-5     Motorola Marathon on February 18, 2001; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A city not unlike our own beloved state capital,
 1-7     Sendai is home to nearly one million residents and is the
 1-8     political, economic, and cultural center of the country's Tohoku
 1-9     district; well known for its numerous colleges and universities,
1-10     Sendai has earned international recognition for its many research
1-11     institutes that have fostered the region's flourishing high
1-12     technology industry; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Blessed with the Hirose River winding through the
1-14     city, this picturesque metropolis gracefully blends sophisticated
1-15     urbanism and natural beauty with its tree-lined streets and modern
1-16     high-rise buildings; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Members of the visiting delegation include Kazuhiro
1-18     Haryu, Naoki Ibata, Hisayuki Kobayashi, Atsushi Konno, Akira Muto,
1-19     Kazuo Numadate, Masaru Ogawa, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Nobutoshi Sugawaral,
1-20     Kotaro Tsugawa, Kumi Valenty, and Sho Yoshida; the delegation is
1-21     being hosted by Motorola representatives Rich Bailey and Ashlea
1-22     Anderson; and
1-23           WHEREAS, It is most fitting to take the opportunity presented
1-24     by their visit to the Capitol to accord these fine athletes a warm
 2-1     Texas greeting; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby welcome the Japanese participants in the
 2-4     Motorola Marathon to the State Capitol and extend to them sincere
 2-5     best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable visit; and, be it
 2-6     further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for the members of this delegation as an expression of
 2-9     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
