R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 75th anniversary of Temple
1-2 College, and this noteworthy occasion is indeed deserving of
1-3 special legislative recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Founded in 1926, Temple College started out in the
1-5 basement of Temple High School and has grown and prospered through
1-6 the years; it now has several campus locations and an enrollment of
1-7 more than 3,200 students; and
1-8 WHEREAS, This public two-year community college offers
1-9 courses in a variety of pre-professional subjects, such as
1-10 medicine, law, education, business, engineering, and the arts, as
1-11 well as comprehensive technical programs and continuing education
1-12 opportunities for people who need training in a specific field; and
1-13 WHEREAS, With his leadership and commitment to furthering
1-14 education, Temple College President Marc A. Nigliazzo has upheld
1-15 the university's time-honored traditions of encouraging and
1-16 inspiring students to become well-rounded individuals and to reach
1-17 their full potential by developing their academic competencies,
1-18 critical thinking skills, communication proficiency, civic
1-19 responsibility, and global awareness; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Temple College students have been selected for the
1-21 Texas All-State Academic Team every year since its inception, and
1-22 the school's dental hygiene graduates rank in the top eight percent
1-23 on the national board examination; moreover, its nursing programs
1-24 have received an exemplary rating from the Board of Nurse
2-1 Examiners; and
2-2 WHEREAS, In addition, students at this esteemed institution
2-3 of higher learning have excelled in a number of extracurricular
2-4 activities, including music and sports; Temple College management
2-5 students have captured the prestigious Texas Sweepstakes Award for
2-6 winning the most individual medals in the state Delta Epsilon Chi
2-7 Career Development Conference for the past 26 consecutive years;
2-8 and
2-9 WHEREAS, For more than 75 years, Temple College has been
2-10 known for its strong academic curriculum and devotion to helping
2-11 its students succeed in the classroom and in life, and it is most
2-12 fitting to pay tribute to this exemplary school at this time; now,
2-13 therefore, be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-15 Legislature hereby congratulate Temple College on celebrating its
2-16 75th anniversary and extend to all those associated with this
2-17 outstanding institution sincere best wishes for success and
2-18 happiness in their future endeavors; and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20 prepared for the Temple College administration, faculty, staff, and
2-21 students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-22 Representatives.
