R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Rosa Walker has long been a significant force in 1-2 Texas politics, and her many years of dedication and numerous 1-3 contributions are most deserving of special legislative 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, For more than 32 years, this esteemed woman has 1-6 worked for the betterment of this state, pursuing a host of civic 1-7 initiatives and encouraging an involved and informed citizenry; she 1-8 is well-respected throughout Texas, and her tireless efforts are 1-9 truly laudable; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Ms. Walker was born in Hemphill and 1-11 realized her interest in the labor movement while a young woman 1-12 employed with Southwestern Bell; since that time, she has worked 1-13 diligently to protect and empower the working men and women of this 1-14 state as a member of the executive board of the CWA, an organizer 1-15 for the Industrial Union Department of the AFL-CIO, and an employee 1-16 of the Harris County AFL-CIO; since 1965, this distinguished woman 1-17 has worked with the Texas AFL-CIO, where she is currently the 1-18 director of community services and volunteers; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The organizer of several voter registration drives, 1-20 get-out-the-vote programs, and disaster relief efforts, Ms. Walker 1-21 has given generously of her time and many talents; she is a member 1-22 of the Texas Women's Hall of Fame, former state vice president of 1-23 the Texas Coalition of Labor Union Women, founder of the Texas 1-24 Consumer Association, member of the Democratic National Committee, 2-1 and former member of the Texas Judicial Conduct Committee; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Ms. Walker has earned the trust and admiration of 2-3 all who know her through her combination of integrity, conviction, 2-4 and concern for her fellow Texans, and it is most appropriate to 2-5 join in honoring this remarkable individual as her friends, family, 2-6 and colleagues celebrate her birthday; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby commend Rosa Walker for her committed service to 2-9 the citizens of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for a 2-10 very happy birthday; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Ms. Walker as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
